On the Way
The festival is held in one of the unique regions of Armenia and provides an opportunity to see the amazing historical and natural monuments and treasures. Here are presented several wonderful places we offer to visit while participating in the festival.
Makaravanq
The legendary monastery Makaravank was quite lucky to be reconstructed during the late Soviet period, that is why now it reveals all the splendor of its churches, bas-reliefs, walls and khachkars.
To reach the monastery from Yerevan, you need to pass Ijevan and after 12 km turn towards Achajur village. Passing 6 km, you will find yourself in front of the gate of the entrance to the monastery. And until you get very close to the gate, the monastery will not be seen.
It is already 3 years that every weekend the liturgy is being held in the monastery and the chorus of children from the neighboring village is singing during the liturgy.
Goshavanq
Goshavank was built in the place of an older monastery once known as Nor Getik, which had been destroyed by an earthquake in 1188. Mkhitar Gosh, a statesman, scientist and an author of numerous fables and parables as well as the first criminal code, took part in the reconstruction of the monastery.
At Goshavank, Mkhitar Gosh founded a school. One of his disciples, an Armenian scientist named Kirakos Gandzaketsi wrote The History of Armenia.
